1.   Maj Gen John Ochefu Ochai was born in Kaduna on 8 Sep 1969. He hails from Otukpa in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State.
2.​   He began his military career at the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of 39 Regular Course on 12 Sep 1987. The officer was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps on 19 Sep 1992.  
3.​   The officer graduated with a BSc (Hons) Geography Degree from NDA in an Sep 1991. He has an Msc in Strategic Studies from University of Ibadan in June 2015. Maj Gen Ochai also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Ghana Institute of Public Administration in 2005.  
4.   Maj Gen Ochai has been engaged in operations both within and outside the country. Most notable amongst which are: 

a. EXTERNAL OPERATIONS 
      (1)          United Nations Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR) Feb 1995 - Feb 1996. 
      (2)          African Union Mission in Darfur (AMIS) Dec 2006 - Dec 2007. (Chief of Operations). 
      (3)          United Nations African Union Mission Darfur Dec 2007 - Dec 2008. (Chief of Plans).    

b. INTERNAL OPERATIONS 
      (1)          HQ 7 Div Operation LAFIYA DOLE Chief of Staff. Dec 2015 - Dec 2017. 
      (2)          Commander 22 Brigade Dikwa Operation LAFIYA DOLE. Dec 2017 - Dec 2018.    

5.   Maj Gen Ochai held many notable appointment in the course of his career. Prominent amongst them are as follows: 
      a.     Commanding Officer 245 Recce Battalion Ikom, Cross River State Sep 2015 - Dec 2017. 
      b.    Commander 22 Armoured Brigade Dikwa Borno State Dec 2017 - Dec 2018. 
      c.     Director Compaign Planning Army Headquarters Dec 2018 - Mar 2020.  
      d.    Director of Operations Army Headquarters Feb 2021 - Present.     

6.   Maj Gen JO Ochai in addition to his purely military professional postings also had the following notable experiences: 
      a.   Exchange Directing Staff (Lecturer) at the Botswana Defence Command and Staff College Sep 2010 - Mar 2012. 
      b.    Visiting Resource Person National Defence College Washington DC 2015 -2020. 
      c.     Facilitator of Peace Support Operations Seminar Indonesian Peace Support Training Centre Sentul Indonesia 2015 - 2019. 
      d.    Alumnnus Havard Kennedy School US. 
      e.     The senior officer has attended lots of seminars both at home and abroad including Challenge’s Seminar Sweeden and The Stockholm Forum Seminar, Sweeden amongst others. 
      f.      Presentation to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly that contributed to the ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty in 2013.    

      7.   The officers hubbies include listening to music, reading and current affairs. He is happily married and blessed with 3 children.
